Inaugural Meeting of Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Commission Planned for October The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Commission announced its inaugural meeting will take place October 27-28, 2015 in Chicago. Information for this public meeting is available at the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact website, www.licenseportability.org. Earlier this week, Pennsylvania became the 20th state to introduce the Compact this year. U.S. Supreme Court Hears Arguments in FTC Case with Implications for State Medical Boards On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Federal Trade Commission v. Phoebe Putney Health System, Inc., on appeal from the Eleventh Circuit. In April 2011, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a complaint to prevent the acquisition of Palmyra Medical Center by the Hospital Authority of Albany-Dougherty County, alleging that the merger between Palmyra and Albany’s only other hospital, Phoebe Putney Memorial, would significantly reduce competition and result in higher prices for general acute-care hospital services.
